Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
i am currently studying for my IF2 exam after completing my IF1. i am going doing rotations in the different departments within the business to help my understanding of what the company does and to improve my knowledge of the different platforms used to complete jobs on a day to day basis.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I am so grateful to have this opportunity to be in this programme and am thoroughly enjoying it, especially meeting new people who are on the programme with me. the working environment is like a family, everyone is kind and friendly and has been so welcoming to us apprentices joining the company.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
i have learnt lots of new skills and it’s opened up many more opportunities. i have improved my communication skills by speaking to clients and brokers on the phones as well as being in an office environment. along side studying for my exams for my role in the future it has given my a broader understanding of insurance as a whole.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
it has been very intense because there is a lot to learn, but we have been given a schedule of what we need to achieve and how we can achieve it. there are different sessions in place to help us keep up to date with all our learning and if we have any queries.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
if i ever need any help or advice there is always someone who would be able to help. i have monthly checking with my manager to ensure i am comfortable and that i am up to date with all my learning, from this it has kept me up to confident in what i am doing.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
we are given tasks to complete for our exams and have sessions every 2 weeks to help go over what we have learnt and ask any questions - i think this is a downfall as there is a lot of information within the textbooks for the exams and during these sessions very little is gone over and questions can’t always be answered.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
i think that it gives me a better understanding that you can achieve things when you put effort into it and that you have to want something to be successful otherwise you will have doubt about the things you do. you have to keep you with the work and ensure you are on track without the hand holding.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
there are certain events and other workshops we can attend which helps communicate with different people such as broker events. there are also events that are to help with your learning such as at the excel centre in london which we attend to learn more about our specific roles, it makes a change to be out of the office and with different people as well as always growing our knowledge.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Direct Line to a friend?
Yes
Why?
the work environment is so friendly and everyone has been so welcoming, there’s not a bad thing to say about the company. they also have amazing benefits which are open to employees. i think that the company is one of the best to work for as they care about all there employees.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Direct Line?
i think you just have to be confident and willing to learn more as well as being friendly. there will be times when things aren’t easy but you have to be able to ask for help otherwise you will never progress.
