Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Role was to help test an automation tool developed by the Customer Technical Policy team as well as make improvements where possible to current processes. The whole placement was done remote and the typical day started at 9:00am, checking emails, attending online teams meetings and actually doing the work of testing the automation tool. Typically the day finishes at 5:00pm.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I was given quite a lot of responsibility in my internship. I was actually encouraged to speak to other people in National Grid and to get to know how the business works. Tasks that I did in the automation did have a positive impact on the team as well as other teams with in ESO.
In general the biggest responsibility I had there was simply being proactive.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
Yes definitely. At National grid they do encourage there staff to take timeout and learn new skills on the job. They have courses and do have a coding café during the week so you can study in a group and share coding knowledge. They also use learning suites such as LinkedIn learning, which I have to say is really good and it helped me improve my excel and python skills.
