Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

actual programming and engineering of software, placements change on half year basis and are relatively the same type of work.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoyed the day to day, in placements is the best. The work is interesting and fun, the people are generally nice. The programme is ultimately let down by mismanagement and a general lack of planning for the apprentice.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

mainly taught myself to program, placements and mangers help. No assistance from upper management. University provide help to teach the basics but it clear more was learnt on the job than in a lecture hall

Management have no idea what I do day-to-day and just assume that I'm doing the required tasks. Not to say I don't do work, I don't get given work that is needed to complete the on job diploma
How much support do you receive from your employer?

Management have generally been supportive when its been explicitly asked for in terms of personal issues. However they seriously lack in communication causing more issues. Again the lack of a clear plan also causes issues

Why?
I would not recommend the Software Engineering course when there's an exact better course as the Aerospace Engineering course. It has the same outcomes and receives better attention and support from management.
