Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I am currently working in Technical Publications which involves receiving configuration items from customers which state updates or modifications to a particular publication which neds amending. So it involves taking the current publication from HawkNet and editing it to accompany the new config item and sending it to edit, Validation, ITAR check and print. I am the author in my job role at the moment.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

The apprenticeship is well structured and it provides multiple opportunities to gain new knowledge and valuable skills in the engineering industry. The Managers and Skills coach I work closely with are friendly and always open to help and give support and guidance where necessary which makes the work I'm doing run smoothly, but challenging at the same time.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt how to interpret config control items and use the database called tpubs and how to start the job as an author and progress them to edit. I have used new programs like Mercury, Adobe FrameMaker and Epic. Accessing and navigating through the team files and choosing correct locations to save files and folders, whilst naming them correctly as well.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

As I am in the first Cohort which Brough have taken on, the start of the programme was organised but confusing. There was a clear structure for the training at the AMA Academy, but I was only told the order and schedule of my Placements a couple of weeks before they started.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

The support and benefits are outstanding. From my Placement Manager, we have daily chats to have updates on job tasks and daily life to ensure I am on track and progressing well. There are many employees who contact me regularly and people who I can ask for help and guidance if required.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
My Skills coach always offers to support me and schedule meetings to go through Diploma work and Placement progress. Sometimes I have to set a meeting for a couple of weeks due to the calendar schedules, but he is always willing and wanting to help and guide me through, and provide the necessary support if required.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The university and College theory is easily used in the job role at them moment. It is all linked and relevant which provides a stable base of knowledge to build on. The training at the AMA Academy with the practical and theory has helped a lot, as It has given me insight knowledge and experience working on aircraft and how they operate.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are many events and activities to get invlolved in. I have started a new project on the Gate Guardians at the AMA Humberside and I am also involved in the Tempest Early Careers Network which delivers social events and activities like team building and tasks. I am also looking in to becoming a STEM ambassador.

Why?
The company benefits and support are outstanding. The pension scheme, company benefits, salary, working environment, range of opportunities, and how BAE treat us as employees for example, awarding me with a bonus and additional shares due to the amazing performance from the Company last year, is fabulous. Not once have I felt lost and not know who to contact, everyone is friendly and willing to help and support you through the Apprenticeship.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Do your research into the company to have a strong foundation of knowledge. Be yourself in the interview and assessment days as that is when you are most relaxed and perform better. Write a list and and some detail about the experiences, skills and opportunities that you have done so you can talk about them.
