Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I am in charge of running all the back of house activities and team at the pub. Setting up, cleaning and closing the kitchen. Placing orders, accepting and putting away deliveries, monitoring stock and counting, line checks. Directing and delegating tasks to other team members. Cooking food for customers, cleaning and organising the kitchen. Checking invoices, reporting repairs, ensuring health and safety measures are being followed correctly and in place. Ensuring all due diligence is in place.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
I enjoy learning about all the different management techniques and developing myself as a manager through the knowledge I am gaining. I sometimes do not enjoy the workload as it conflicts with the busy work schedule and often find that you can fall behind easily so this part is not enjoyable.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
I have gained a qualification in Level 3 Senior Production Chef whilst with the company along with the training workshops to become Kitchen manager. I have signed up to and attended several workshops available through TAP and read through alot of the information on the vault relating to my role. I have sought advice and training from the Food and Drinks Coaches. I signed up to the MDP Programme to further develop myself. I recently attended a KMI workshop to become an accredited Kitchen Manager and develop and train new KMs back in the business

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The programme is very well organised and structured and each step builds on the last so you gain a better understanding of what it takes to become a good manager. The layout is clear, I feel there could be a bit more clarity on the evidence documents that need to be submitted to the units.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
1/5
I do not receive alot of support from my general manager and he is very uninterested in my goals and training. I often have to chase for him to do my employee skills building and deadlines will be missed because of this. I often have to seek the information I need for myself.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
My trainer is very understanding of the work/life balance and has been flexible with my learning plan. He has shown support and has kept in touch should I need anything outside of the meetings we have. Sometimes clearer targets could be used on what needs to be completed for portfolio work.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I have gained a lot of confidence in my role since starting the programme and feel I have a greater understanding on how to coach and develop my team and business. I am able to see things from a different perspective and analyse individual needs and way they learn and need to be trained.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
1/5
No there are no current extra curricular activities at my site. There are online challenges found on kingdom that you can join such as cycling and walking challenges but not anything that you can join locally or with the team itself. The networking is limited and I have not seen anything advertised.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Greene King to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I have worked on and off for Greene King for almost 20 years and have always found they are a well structured and have certain guidelines and procedures to follow. There is a great path for personal development and progression within the company should you seek it out and want to take your career further.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Greene King?
I would recommend that they ask lots of questions and have a clear plan on what it is they are looking to achieve in their career. Make use of all of the available training that is provided on tap and the benefits that the company can provide. Take advantage of the apprenticeship schemes as they are really beneficial in self development.
