Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
In my role I collect data from different areas of the business and Control Account Managers (CAMs). I then analyse and check this data for variances. I must contact the CAMs to explain any in month variances. I will then prepare the reports for the customer using the collected data.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I do enjoy my programme however I occasionally find the degree apprenticeship/programme development documentation a bit repetitive and unnecessary. Despite this, I do feel well supported by the programme team (even though I am working virtually), and I also feel that I am learning and developing my skills constantly.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have developed my communication and presentation skills throughout the duration of my placement within this degree apprenticeship. Additionally, I have learnt new IT skills and I am able to use a wide range of toolsets and software. In particular, my knowledge and ability to work with excel has improved.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
I feel that the programme is well organised and structured. I have been made aware of what I am expected to do and am given adequate notice of the deadlines for this. I know who to contact if I have any queries, occasionally it is difficult to contact them as they are often busy. However, the mentors will always reply and if needed, put time aside to discuss and resolve any issues I have.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I feel that I am receiving lots of support from my employer. Within my placement, I am able to go to my line manager any issues or queries. My apprenticeship team are also really helpful and supportive. We often have apprentice events where I can meet up with other apprentices on the scheme across a variety of years. This makes me feel supported as I am able to ask questions and receive guidance from the older apprentices.
In addition, I feel that my employer cares about the wellbeing of its employees. I have been made aware that I can claim for DSE equipment if I begin to experience problems working from home.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
On occasion, I have received no reply from my training provider when asking questions over email. As we are on-site once every three weeks, it makes communication difficult, especially if I have assignments due or time sensitive questions.
In addition, we have been notified of a mentoring service (HELMS) but what they do, how they will help or how to contact them has not been particularly clear.
Despite this, if I am able to ask the lecturers a question in person, they are supportive and will explain or go over a topic again if required.
I don't particularly enjoy my course at the moment as it feels a little pointless and simplistic which means that I am unmotivated. However, I am aware that the training provider is currently building a foundation of knowledge for the cohort and hopefully over the next few years, I will find it more engaging/interesting.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
At the start of my apprenticeship, I found my qualification was really helping with my placement role. As I had no prior knowledge of a business environment or project management, my qualification learning helped me settle into the business and understand more about my role. I haven't been able to put into practice anything that I have learnt from my qualification yet, however I believe that it will be useful for future roles.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are several extra curricular activities available. However I have only been involved in the apprentice networking events and also I ran a virtual fundraising scheme.

Yes

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
I definitely recommend applying. Even if you do not get onto the scheme, I found the overall application process good experience as it will help you prepare for any future job applications.
