Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
My role is working in a engineering department to help them and mainly to see what jobs I would like to do in the future once the apprenticeship has finished
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I am working at the forefront of the industry and have been involved with some great projects. University is sometimes strenuous but I will be glad to have a degree by the end. All the people I have met are extremely nice and helpful

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have developed a lot of technical knowledge- microsoft packages, coding as well as my dexterity skills

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
Could be done a bit better but that is expected as I am in the first cohort and it will tkae time to iron out the creases. Sometimes things get done slowly or with no real timescale set which seems to be down to lack of communication
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
All the support I need and a whole lot more
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
Not as much as through the company. There are big variations in lecturers in terms of when they respond and how useful their responses are. I don't feel like they could really deal with any huge issues if we had any as a cohort.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
There are certainly a lot of links between the 2 but the placement helps with uni rather than vice versa.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5
I'm sure there are but we don't really seem to hear a lot. Even opportunities to do things within the company take some deep searching (e.g interviews). Don't really see a lot of the other apprentices who are our age so not aware of social opportunites.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
There's no other place to get this level of training and exposure and with a scheme that's been in place to a few years, its clear they values the input of apprentices and want to support them
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Do everything you can to stand out and put yourself in the right place to get the job because if you're successful you will be set for life.
