Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Attend CECAMM training centre for first year, learning engineering principles and practical activities. As a fitter the most applicable and enjoyable lectures are circuit building, welding, general machining and composites.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
Every single day I do and learn something new. In the workplace there is a huge range of things to learn and get involved in. My programme allows me to explore lots of different engineering roles which makes it interesting

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I was previously a mechanic but have since gained massive experience in machining, electrics and engineering activities. I have developed new skills like working on CAD, CNC and welding. These have given me a different outlook and new ways to tackle problems

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
Having a few days at the start of the programme to induct us really helped us to get familiarised with our course. As it is such a large company it can be hard to find out who is responsible for us and who to report to at first.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
My employer specifically my manager communicates with me regularly and they do care about our programme. They will set out plans for us to have work when attending site. My college really care about us as students and want us to do well
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
Although I am in a large class, I still can have access to one on one tutoring. Any question i may have will be answered to ensure I understand fully
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
It is hard to understand how well it will help as I haven’t had much workplace experience yet. I believe it does set us up with the basic skills in a broad range of job roles which could be important
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
I recently had an Outward Bound course with my work to the Lake District. It was good as I met people from different areas and sites of the business. I’m sure there are many other activities in store for me in the future
