Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
As a Data Analyst, we analyse and manipulate data using different programming languages and technologies, in order to maintain data quality standards and avoid any potential errors. We do this in a number of areas in the Project Controls Function: e.g. cost management, Governance and Assurance, and Project Set Up , and more.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy my programme a lot, as I get to interact with new people, and bring a new pair of eyes to the table. The work itself is also enjoyable, conducting research and presentations to aid in our competencies. This is as well as gaining connections within other parts of the business through our degree scheme.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have developed numerous new skills in my apprenticeship, including physical skills like using different programmes, and also other skills such as time management, adaptability, and more that line up with the BAE Behaviours. My organisation skills have also improved significantly, as I organise folders and data alike, making sure everything is up to standards.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
Our apprenticeship is structured into several 12 month placements, and is organised within different sectors of the project controls function. Our placement managers also support with this organisation, as they aid us with work and help us not take too much onto our plates. Therefore, this apprenticeship is very well organised.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Within my placement I receive a lot of support - from frequent catch ups with my manager, to several training opportunities, on site or online. My managers provide me with consistent work and therefore provides any support if I need it. This includes meetings discussing it or always being open to questions being asked - or even pointing us in the right direction if things are not clear elsewhere.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
We conduct lessons through Microsoft Teams, however, occasionally are able to visit the campus for a week at a time. Here, we receive lots of support, and any questions are instantly answered. They also conduct 12 weekly 'Tripartite' reviews, to monitor our progress and see if we need any help.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I feel that I am consistently improving thanks to my qualification. This is because I am improving my knowledge and skills alike, and being able to implement this in my role as a data analyst. This includes things such as 'A Digital World' module where our knowledge is used to help in our role, as well as our programming module, which aids in our Data Programming.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
In terms of socially, the function has holiday get togethers where we are all welcome to go - this includes Christmas. There are also opportunities to join social activities, such as a rounders team, or a netball team, outside of work, with other work colleagues. There are also opportunities to do 'STRETCH' activities which help network connections.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I feel it is a very beneficial and useful apprenticeship. They allow you to continue your education, but keep a guaranteed job for you at the end of it. It allows you to gain connections and gain a more social aspect, as well as providing us with the knowledge and skills needed to continue the appropriate role.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Personally, I would recommend to take the job if you receive an offer. Make sure you keep your organisation skills high, to accommodate to the work load and skills you will be given. This will avoid your stress levels from increasing and allows you to keep track of your work - including implementing an action tracker to stay on top of what you need to do.
