Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Helping out on a variety of projects and tasks, communicating with people around the entire business. Each year you are on a different placement within the business, giving you a good understanding of the business as a whole and allowing you the opportunity to get to know what you want to do going forward, after your apprenticeship.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy my programme a lot, I honestly couldn’t be happier with where this apprenticeship has taken me so far and believe there is still more to come. There are of course some bits that are not as enjoyable as other but I see that as all just part of the learning experience.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learnt so much, from how to better communicate a message to a wide variety of people to fundamental project management skills that i learn through both university and my current job placement within the business. This apprenticeship allows you to continually develop your existing skills through regular catch-ups with our skills coaches

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
I believe the program is very well organised. There is great understanding and communication between apprentices, line managers, skills coaches and other staff to help us understand where we are where we are going and what we need to do to get there. Overall I have no complaints about the structure of the apprenticeship.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
We receive as much support as we need. We have the freedom to ask for as little or as much support as we would like. We are trusted and treated like adults yet if we have a need help it’s really easy to get. They are always willing to support.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
We do not receive loads of support from our training provider in terms of working towards our convocations. Eight times there seems like a big disconnect between apprentices on the training providers who are giving us our qualifications. However from my personal experience this has not hindered me being able to effectively work towards this qualification.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
In some instances yes the qualifications we will gain through the training provider do fall in line with some of the work that we do on a day-to-day basis. However in my current placement not a lot of the theory behind the degree can help me complete my usual tasks.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Yes there are loads of extracurricular activities on offer. These can range from charitable sporting events to walks in the Lake District all really helping Apprentices bond with their other coworkers Outside of the usual work I try and take part in as many of these as possible. However it’s not all just sporting there are also opportunities such as helping out in primary schools.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend BAE Systems to a friend because the work is engaging .They thoroughly care about your development and there is also a great work life balance with competitive pay to go on side that as well as a clear ladder for progression within the business and great people to work alongside.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
It is just as much about the company being right for you as you being right for the company. So take the recruitment process as an opportunity to see if BAE Systems is right for you as in my case with my course being five years it is a big commitment.
