Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
The day to day work life as a craft apprentice at AWE teaches us the basis of electrical knowledge and how to stay safe whilst working in an environment such as AWE, we are taught the risks of electrical technology and how to minimise the risks to ourselves and others whilst ensuring we are doing the job correctly.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I thoroughly enjoy my apprenticeship programme due to the environment I work in. The apprenticeship allows me to explore the trade and to make mistakes and learn from them to benefit myself in the future, AWE has created a safe environment for all new apprentices to feel safe in, however the college aspects of the apprenticeship is not up to the similar standard of the on site apprenticeship.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I came into the apprenticeship with a limited knowledge about electrical aspects, however the AWE apprenticeship has allowed me to develop on existing skills and furthermore benefit off learning more skills as time progressed, learning more skills and tricks of the trade along with using the tools applied to my job role.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The organised structure of the apprenticeship is very good as the tasks set for us to do are clearly set out and the instructions are clear for us to benefit the most from the tasks set for us. The tasks test us on our knowledge and problems we encounter which we learn from.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
We receive support from our employers when we need the help, if we are struggling on a task then our instructors will help us and teach us how to correctly complete the task, if there are problems inside the workplace or at college then our employers are open to helping us learn from the problems.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
College is significantly different to the workplace, the assignments we are set there is minimal help offered and we are told to do it in our own time whilst also working full time at work, the instructors at college can tend to talk down to the students despite us being adults.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
The qualification through the training provider does not fully benefit my course of electrical maintenance as it is electronics the course I am learning. However it is good knowledge to learn and the mathematics side of the course is helpful for calculations and the business aspect is also somewhat helpful.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are certain extra curricular activities to get involved with such as charity work and other activities such as bake sales to raise money and awareness for certain reasons. There is also a leisure / sport club nearby to get involved with in the local area, there are also times when we can submit questions to the CEO.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend AWE to a friend?
Yes
Why?
AWE as a work place is an outstanding place to grow and expand your learning for the desired trade or work you would like to commit to in the future, AWE is a workplace that welcomes new recruits to the workforce and helps you better yourself overall for your future.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to AWE?
If you are applying for an apprenticeship at AWE get in early as the process of beginning your AWE course takes a long time to do so and there is competition for spaces within the apprenticeship academy, if you make it in do not stress the work space and the instructors are very good.
