Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
To learn how to complete electrical maintenance and installations. We have to complete write ups on all the tasks. We also learn how to use new tools and the situations they would be used in.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy my apprenticeship as it's in a trade I've wanted to do for ages and I'm constantly learning new things everyday about the role. I also like the work/college balance as it helps us manage our time easier balancing them both out.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I've learnt a lot about how to complete different electrical processes and how to use different tools that I've never seen before. I've also furthered my skills in working with other people in different types of working situations.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
I think the structure of the apprenticeship is good as there is enough time to complete tasks and also complete college work too.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
As apprentices we receive a lot of support whether that's to find something out about things that need to be done in terms of our working environment or help with our actual work finding out how it needs to be done.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
We receive some help from our training provider however sometimes it can be hard to get the help you need from them as you're only there one day a week. This can make it hard to get help with assignments when you need it etc.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
In terms of electrical maintenance, it doesn't help that much. A lot of the learning we do at college is pretty irrelevant to our future role and helps us less than others. However, it it required and is essential for completing the apprenticeship.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are many different company events and activities that we are able to take part in that get advertised to us.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend AWE to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I think that it is a good place to work so far and I'm enjoying it a lot. You learn something new every single day especially in the apprenticeship and I feel that I'm gaining good knowledge in the job I want to do.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to AWE?
Make sure you're honest and are prepared for a long employment process as it can take a while to get to different stages of the interview process. I would like to have been told this, however it never swayed me away from wanting to work here.
