Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Have 4 month rotations for the first 2 years so get moved around a lot, basic day could involve anything from building to testing to designing or presenting. Try to support teams with their current projects but are given options to do work that interests us personally which is useful for future
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
I very much enjoy the work based side as it is interesting and is quite different. The academic side can be slightly boring sometimes as a lot of the lectures and lecturers can be quite dry. However this is made up for with the on the job training which we get constantly

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Yes i have learnt a lot of new skills. My presentation skills have increeased massively as i am expected to give presentations to highly qualified engineers regularly. My problem solving skills have also increased alot as we are encouraged to find solutions by ourselves rather than relying on other people to do the work

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
2/5
The programme itself is very well organised however regularly the communication between warwick and dyson is bad. Often there are times where both parties have scheduled something that we need to be at at the exact same time or day so occasionally need to decide which is more benificial
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
A lot of support from employer, they want you to do the best possible as it helps the team you are in the most. this includes allowing you to do whatever topic you are most interested in the team and helping to facilitate your learning on that topic to help further your knowledge
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
Warwick give a lot of support especially in terms of the apprenticeship. They host logging days to help with keeping on top of reviews. and host tripartite reviews to talk through progress or any concerns that you have as well as helping with any problems that you have in your life
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
Completely, without the training given in both academic and work i would not be able to fulfil what is needed in my role at all. in terms of both engineering knowledge and soft skills such as problem solving and presentation skills. they all have been improved drastically which is needed for my role
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
Yes lots of social events. there is a apprentice specific group for events (UEC - undergraduate experience committee) which hosts nights out as well as brilliant events like go karting mini golf etc. In the workplace teams also get a budget for social which is usually used for going out for meals or drinks

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Dyson Institute of Engineering and Technology to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Feel like i have very good career prospects being at the institute as well as being very well supported in both workplace and academically. Feel like if i have any issues they will be resolved quicker than at the regular uni and the workplace makes it much more enjoyable than just lectures
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Dyson Institute of Engineering and Technology?
Just be yourself at the applicant days and interviews, they are looking for a specific type of person rather than just intelligence so do not try and be someone that you're not. Also dont stress about any assessment parts as the assessors are very nice and understand how you are feeling
