Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
As an apprentice we are provided with high quality lectures and given the opportunity to further develop ourselves through real life experience in the workplace. The work is incredibly varied and provides highly technical projects to be worked on. As well as this a huge amount of support is provided to us.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I love being able to apply myself in the real world and work with teams of skilled professionals. The Dyson culture encourages you to try new things and learn from them even if they don't work. I have also really enjoyed working with the staff, they are all engaging and passionate about the experience they provide and keen to make it as good as possible

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
From day 1 we are thrown in the deep end to learn through experience, I've been given opportunities to work on cloud computing, fluid dynamics, battery technology, motors, robotics, electronics just to name a few. As well as this you get to study towards a bachelors degree qualification in engineering

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
We are given support advisors to help us develop as well as possible and apply ourselves. The work is well structured and the different rotations provide a varied and broad structure giving experience in a load of different teams and specialties. We are encouraged to network and broaden our horizons.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
A huge amount. Student support advisors available to help with both the course and with wellbeing, this helps massively to develop us not just technically but also with soft skills. The workplace teams also give these soft skills and by immersing yourself in real projects you can apply them and develop them easier
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
Lectures are high quality and the course complements the work we do to provide the theoretical side to engineering. Applying this to real projects cements it in place and allows us to further develop our understanding so that we can use it practically. Warwick are a bit absent at times but the Dyson teams are great at supporting us.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
The theoretical side of things from Lectures is useful and has helped me some times however, the best learning I have had has been from the practical side of learning on the job. This allows us to develop ourselves in a manner that is applicable to real working life, it has definitely given me a much better experience of the industry compared to traditional university.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are plenty of socials organised by the Undergraduate Experience Committee and plenty of clubs and societies within the course. Work teams also are encouraged to do social activities outside of work to bond with the team. There is a free gym and sports hall on campus available to everyone and work clubs that book it out.
