Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
On three days a week we work in engineering teams across different areas of Dyson on 6 month rotations for the first 2 years. Projects vary massively from programming to creating a test for products. We are treated as engineers, but teams are also very supportive.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I really enjoy the program, it is very varied and interesting in the workplace and studying. There is about 40 people per year, so you get to know people very well, especially in the first year as we live together in the pods in Dyson Village.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
We have dedicated wellbeing and development days to help develop skills, such as time management, understanding people e.t.c.. I have improved my confidence and communication at Dyson by interacting with many different people. I have also learnt to organise my own work to meet a project deadline.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The program is generally well organised with lots of people overseeing the different aspects of the workplace and studying. It is well structured in the workplace as we work in 4 different teams in the first 2 years, then pick one team for the final 2 years.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
There is a lot of support available. We have Student Support Advisers who have monthly meetings with us to check how we are getting on. There are also dedicated people who oversee our experience in the workplace and help us to complete the Apprenticeship Standard.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
There is a lot of support. As our lectures are delivered by The Dyson Institute, our lecturers work on site so are always available to help and answer questions on our studying.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
We study a general engineering degree, so different aspects of what we learn are useful in different teams.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are quite a few clubs available at The Dyson Institute, both sports clubs and other activities. Some clubs are after work and some run weekend trips.
