Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
Mechanical Maintenance or maintenance fitter. General maintenance (visual inspections to breakdowns), do pipework repairs and fitting (steam, compressed air, chilled water). bearing changes, belt changes, filter changes etc.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
The Apprentice team i worked with is great, the teachers/ mentors/ supervisors weren't all that helpful within the apprentice academy but i learned enough outside of it to cope... overall i've enjoyed it quite a bit.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
Of course, I've undergone training courses such as slinging and lifting as well as learned my specific trade from experienced mentors and supervisors who are typically happy to help.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
2/5
Honestly, thanks to COVID everything was up in the air. i was meant to go to approximately 6 placements to see what AWE had to offer but i have only been to 1 and thats now the one im going to outturn in.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
A decent amount, if im ever in need or struggling with something then i can contact the necessary departments or managers in hope to resolve the issue.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
If i needed help i would always get it as long as i looked for help. the guidance was adequate for the help i needed.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
1/5
I've learned more onsight than i ever did within the apprentice academy and honestly, the only thing that helped was the machining to understand how to turn and mill material however, i havn't once touched a machine like that again...
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Yeah theres all sorts. constant spam through emails and the sharepoint portal stating a yoga class or a fishing activity or even sporting events that the company is participating in looking for others to join.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend AWE to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It's an easy place to work at, unless you have bad supervisors the workplace is stress free and an excellent place to learn once you're onsight.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to AWE?
stay persistent with it. AWE is notoriously bad at communicating and sometimes won't get back to you for months. Don't be afraid to ask for follow ups via email.
