Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
I attend uni once a week and work at the hospital 2/3 times a week (12hr shifts) caring for patients and supporting the nursing team whilst also completing uni assignments and exams
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
2/5
I don’t enjoy attending university. Lecturers take almost a week to reply to any emails. Information isn’t clearly delivered at all times. Often classes change last minute and the content of the sessions don’t help with assignments.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
I have learnt skills whilst at work at the hospital. I have learnt how to write academically at level 4 and also how to use Harvard referencing

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
2/5
Terribly. There is little help towards academic writing and when asking for help, it takes over a week sometimes to hear back. Little help in how to research properly although this has improved in year two. Lecturers change time of lectures and get called away
How much support do you receive from your employer?
2/5
My employer (hospital) doesn’t take into account exams and assignment submission dates and so my working rota can be difficult sometimes. I don’t get asked how uni is going or if I need any support.
Employer is good though at teaching on the job skills
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
I don’t think there is much support. You’re not prepared for the big jump to the next level of writing and expectations. Lecturers should offer more support and put lectures/sessions on that he’ll towards achieving
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
I don’t think it makes that much of a difference. I feel that the skills I learn whilst working on the ward makes more of a difference and helps shape how I perform in my role
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
1/5
No

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Nottingham Trent University to a friend?
No
Why?
It’s unorganised, it doesn’t feel like there is much support. You’re told to email and keep emailing if you need help but then you feel a nuisance. You don’t get clear answers, it’s often like talking to a politician - we just want clear instructions
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Nottingham Trent University?
Consider what you want to get out of the course and talk to other students to see if they can show that the support is available at university.
