Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My apprenticeship involved studying, applying the knowledge of exams to everyday work pressures. Interactions with multiple higher management across the business and external through the apprenticeship programme. Having the responsibility to time manage correctly along with performing essay based tasks and studying for exams to reach a qualification. Many projects throughout the apprenticeship have consisted of finding ways for me to improve within my role.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

There has been times when it was tough, work pressures during Covid were hard to balance at times. However, the team I am in have been so helpful in providing assistance when necessary and shouting out when I was struggling was hard to begin with but benefits the team in the end. The apprenticeship definitely helped me ease into my role compared to if I didn't gain the knowledge my apprenticeship helped me with.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Through the apprenticeship I have gained a qualification recognised by businesses in the financial market. Have had access to multiple webinars to gaining skills in communication, time-management, revision techniques and professionalism. I have been able to take each skill the apprenticeship has taught me and apply it to my role successfully, improving and benefitting my employment.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

I do think my programme could have been more organised however this is of no fault of the business. The apprenticeship programme changed mentors quite regularly which made it hard to maintain the relationship. There wasn't much support provided in the beginning however after voicing this concern the business adapted and provided as much help as necessary.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

My employer provided most support necessary, HR were involved at the beginning of the programme and continued to catch up where necessary to ensure I had comfortably settled in to the position. My manager has gone above and beyond to support me in my apprenticeship which has made the experience smoother. I had a mentor when I first began the programme which provided weekly meetings to again ensure I was settling in.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I did expect more support when beginning the apprenticeship. However, the support that was provided I was grateful. I managed to find support elsewhere not from the training provider as many employees across the business has done the apprenticeship and so were very supportive and helpful when some guidance was needed. I am very glad I had colleagues that were willing to help when I couldn't seek guidance from the training provider.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

My apprenticeship has helped me in my role tremendously, the role I have would definitely have been harder had I not gained the further knowledge the apprenticeship brought. The knowledge of the theory side of the apprenticeship is used everyday in my practical work and has helped me see the bigger picture on how my role impacts not only the business but the UK financial market.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Yes, every year there is a Summer party and a Christmas party. The business also holds an annual rewards ceremony in which people who deserve recognition are celebrated. There are many community programmes in the business allowing employees to help local charities, we are also given 2 days per year to commit to charity to work. There are many team building days across teams to help colleague rapport and along with a wellbeing newsletter.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to RSA Group?
In the application process even if you feel as though something isn't worth mentioning, put it on your CV anyway, it could be a good conversation starter in your interview. Be prepared to ask questions in your interview, you want to be memorable and stand out. Don't worry about the assessment day, be confident and all you can do is try your best.
