Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
My role involves handling any commercial issues that arise on the project and dealing with a range of people, including the internal team and the wider team (i.e. subcontractors and clients)
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
Overall I do enjoy my programme - whilst the work can be intense, I feell as though it will be worth it. The company culture towards the programme could be improved though, as sometimes I feel that my most of colleagues have no clue that the programme exists.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have definitely developed my professional skills, as well as my knowledge of construction technologies and the financial reporting of these projects.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
2/5
I would say that the course itself is fairly well structured, but when it comes to the apprenticeship EPA, the support and guidance lacks severely.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
The support I receive from my employer varies greatly depending on who is my mentor/manager. So far I have been lucky to have good mentors, but the change of personnel since I started (due to staff turnover) has meant a major lack of consistency.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
As stated above, the support from my training provider is certainly present during the bulk of the course, but seems almost non-existent when it comes to the EPA.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
My course is specific to the field that I work in, and subsequently I have put into practise what I have learned multiple times, whether that be when putting together contracts or financial reporting.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5
Due to Covid, this has not really applied since I started.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Kier Group to a friend?
No
Why?
Whilst I enjoy my job, the method of learning would not suit everyone and uncertainty in the future of the company may provide troublesome for many starting a career.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Kier Group?
I would say that if you do want to apply, research your role thoroughly so you can assess your own suitability. The onboarding process itself is relatively straightforward, so just be yourself and try you best.
