Overview of the Experience

Please give an overview of what your virtual experience involved:
4/5
Gained a sound understanding of the concepts, core values and beliefs related to Siemens and the ability to identify the skills needed to pursue a career in this sector, e.g. Communication and Problem Solving skills, coding, etc.
Applied knowledge gained by completing quizzes, interactive exercises and activities.
Gained a better understanding of the career pathways within Siemens, e.g. Cyber Security, Software Engineering and Siemens's Healthineers.
Separate session included key employability and transferable skills, as well as a sound awareness of employer expectations within a career at Siemens.
To what extent did you enjoy your virtual experience?
5/5
Really enjoyed the experience because there were many opportunities to speak to different graduates/ apprentices who work at Siemens, from Cyber Security, to Civil engineering, and ask them about how Siemens has helped shape their career. The technology Siemens had used to build the experience was substantial, many quizzes, virtual games, and tests.
How well organised was your virtual experience?
5/5
The virtual work experience was for two weeks and it was completed at our own pace, so I believe it was very well organised. It was hosted by Springpod, with the daily "meet an industry professional" meetings, and an itinerary (as well as several reminder emails) were sent out in advance.
How much did your virtual experience help you in deciding on your future career path?
5/5
It definitely helped me to gain a greater insight into what working in Engineering and Cybersecurity is really like. It was beneficial in helping students to find careers or apprenticeships that taught or provided a qualification. We were also introduced to different employee perspectives in how being a part of Siemens has benefited them in their role.
Were you paid or reimbursed for this experience?
1/5
No, I was not paid or reimbursed for the Siemens Technology and Engineering Virtual Work experience (insight event) , because it was not a paid placement. Instead it was an insight into the roles within business. There were no travel costs, or meal costs, or social costs. The location was via Springpod, online.

Skills Development

What training and skills development did you learn from your virtual experience?
4/5
Each session included a task or assignment that we had to complete as part of the experience, which was hosted by Springpod. I gained a deeper insight into the many careers available with Siemens and learned how to analyse data, write reports/letters and gained an insight into the culture at Siemens.

Company Culture

How much did you learn about the company culture and what it would be like to work there?
5/5
A huge amount was discovered, form what Siemens had done to promote equality in the workplace, to how Siemens aimed to improve diversity and inclusion through a variety of outreach projects and accessibility programmes, for which they have received many awards, including being "Disability confident". They have strong values at Siemens.
Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees?
5/5
Definitely opportunities for networking, because in each session we were introduced to different employees from different parts of Siemens, including Siemen's "Healthineers". We were able to ask questions regarding their roles and how they felt being a part of Siemens had helped them to succeed. We could also connect with them via LinkedIn.

Recommendations and Advice

Would you recommend Siemens to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Working at Siemens means there are many different subjects or career paths to choose, from accounting and finance, to cyber security or software engineering. Also learned about soft skills (teamwork, communication skills) that are needed to be a knowledgeable member of any organization. Although completing an apprenticeship and a qualification can be a challenge, everyone is well supported to succeed, and there are many opportunities to travel abroad or to try secondments.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Siemens?
Siemens is not only for apprentices or school leavers, anybody is able to complete it. If you are a graduate (or professional) with an Engineering, IT, Finance Health-related background, you are able to apply for a role, but Siemens does recruit on a rolling basis. The Siemens website has more details on the roles available.
