Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
I had a great time during my summer scheme placement, learning a lot throughout the internship. A typical day would include a zoom call with the graduate team to give insight into a Savills department or useful tips for future steps. It would also involve chats with members of the team to see where I could assist them, I would then get on with this work and we would review it soon after.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
Coming into Savills I was aware of the broad scope of services that they offer concerning the property/real estate industry, despite this, I was still amazed by the range of expertise and developments that Savills is involved with. The daily calls to provide insight into each department were extremely useful in understanding the entire business, as well as the potential to work in a variety of departments.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I have learnt so much throughout the summer scheme, ranging from technical to more general skill development. I am now much more capable of being able to participate in planning processes, for example, having created planning history spreadsheets for clients- one such client was interested in developing a listed building just seconds away from the Savills Birmingham office. Equally, I have developed skills associated with interacting with various stakeholders, such as clients or city councils.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Everyone that I spoke to were very friendly and easy to get along with, always offering their help and advice should I need it. Colleagues from varying levels (director to graduate) were extremely inclusive and insightful, there was a clear desire to pass on information to myself to help me learn about the field as a whole.

Would you recommend Savills to a friend?
Yes
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Savills
During the application stage I was asked to complete some application questions, my advice would be to be unique in your approach as well as the things that you speak about. Find something specific and something you find interesting, write about this passionately showing a thorough understanding. During the interview stage, be yourself and be friendly, everyone at the company are so friendly and chatty- I'm sure they look for likeminded individuals.
