Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
The first 16 weeks of this apprenticeship are a boot camp teaching the fundamentals and skills of a DevOps engineer. The final 20 months are spent with BAE Systems working on projects and doing off the job study.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
A lot! It's great to work as part of a team with similar interests and take on so much new knowledge. Our course tutor is also super likable, extremely experienced and has quality teaching skills.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt many new skills in the short time i've been on the apprenticeship which I love as I felt unfulfilled in my previous job, only learning rarely and things I had no interest in.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The course is well structured, teaching us topics in a logical order, and building from basic ideas and techniques to complex ones. It is assumed with no little to nothing about the role and so every aspect is covered.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
The support we receive is really good. Our course has dedicated HR staff ready, at the end of a chat group/phone almost every day of the week. They have been patient, informative and always helpful since the beginning. Equipment and support from managers is also something you can expect!
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
The training staff are dedicated, often giving up their breaks when students require extra time to learn aspects of the role. Support staff from the provider are also very friendly and helpful with aspects of the course other than training.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I feel it is essential. The skills learnt will be fundamental to understanding our future roles.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
The company has numerous clubs within the different regions. Go Karting, sporting clubs and Dungeons and Dragons are to name but a few...
Numerous meetings for training cohorts are also provided to help us learn about niche parts of the company, our roles, and also just as fun social activities!

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
So far my experience of the company and what they have provided me is world class. Everyone i've been in contact with has been friendly and helpful so far. I also gather that future opportunities are flexible, diverse and many!
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Have an enthusiasm for the part of the business you are getting into! Be open about what you have to offer and give it your absolute best shot!
