Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My role is focused on management. I'll spend the day interacting with clients, the team and the business to provide assurance and direction for the project. My tasks vary- from submitting invoices and cost tracking all the way through to configuring the MS Project Plan. I'm be responsible for the delivery of several aspects of the wider project and constantly work with the project manager to ensure successful delivery.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I mostly enjoy the programme. It's fantastic to work and learn at the same time, taking off the job into the workplace. I'd recommend leaning to self motivate and drive as proactively as possible- I've often found myself having to put in "crunch" to achieve deadlines. This'll apply across any apprenticeship and should be thought about with any role.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Whilst on the programme, I've gained ad-qual such as the APM PMQ and AgilePM Foundation alongside working towards my degree. I've been on monthly courses hosted by the business continuously and enjoyed various professional memberships to attend their events and sessions. Skills wise, I've learnt how to apply myself in profession settings. How to motivate a team, best practice is the sector and how to effectively communicate with clients.

How well organised/structured is your programme?

I've had the pleasure to be placed on a highly managed programme. I've had fantastic support both on my apprenticeship and work through the team, line managers and QA providers. I've always felt empowered to reach out when needed and never felt out of my depth. I'm thankful for all who help create this culture.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

Working in a consultancy has meant I'm rarely, if ever, working anywhere near my line manager. I'll receive tasking from the role, project manger and apprenticeship. Regardless, a culture of support has been massively beneficial. If I were to quantify the level of support - I'd say alot!
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

My QA tutor has been fantastic. She's made a human connection and is always on call to support me as required. QA have been providing a high quality programme throughout - flexing from a class based course to virtual seamlessly. I've had fast responses to any queries and haven't had any issues!
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

My course feeds directly into my job. Being able to watch the content in my role and apply techniques in real work has meant I'm constantly improving and developing. Industry training and networking has meant I've developed as a well rounded professional in the market- I'm confident my skills and knowledge will continue to help me in all roles.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

At my place of work, we've got various groups and initiatives to get involved within. A sports club covers various activities whilst another society will go wine tasting. The company has been fantastic at ensuring networking and socialisation, with young professional forums and events held year round. In addition, the company has a volunteering allowance, with up to two fully paid days off to volunteer with a charity of your choice a year.

Why?
Atkins offers a brilliant culture and environment to work in. Covering so many market areas, the consultancy has no end of opportunities to get involved within. Whilst not as large as other consultancies, you can expect the same level of professionalism and experience within. Overall, Atkins is a fantastic employer.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Atkins?
Be honest and open throughout. Atkins values integrity and drive, so do your research, come well prepared, and be open throughout. You'll be a large step above the competition if you've researched thoroughly and will for sure impress the interviewer. As for the rest, be engaged, attentive and responsive. Seek to impress others and go the extra mile- especially during those early days.
