Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

general maintenance on the lines and factory equipment is undertaken daily. attending breakdowns and running issues of electrical , mechanical and PLC equipment. Planning and making required modifications to existing equipment around site and machining or hand fitting parts and components to ensure that everything works and runs as it should.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

i have thoroughly enjoyed the programme so far and its increased my already strong interest in engineering of all different formats , i enjoy the day to day tasks i undertake as well as the unexpected issues we find around site that have to be rectified it allows me a lot of variety in my work.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

i have learnt a wide range of new skills up to this point in my apprenticeship including electrical testing, electrical faultfinding and installation, mechanical fitting, welding, milling, turning on lathes, maintenance procedures, safety system operation and maintenance, PLC work and modifications to list but a few of the areas so far .

How well organised/structured is your programme?

my programme is very well organised and structured , the apprenticeship placements are varied very well allowing you to get at the very least a brief overview of all the engineering roles around the work place and pick up skills you wouldn't learn otherwise. The training provided it very good.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

i receive as much support from my employer as i require. The team that manage the apprenticeship are always on hand and available to deal with any issues you encounter or problems that might occur when needed either by email , by phone or even my face to face meetings in the training department.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

i have received lots of good support from the training providers when i need it. The quality of training is of a very high standard and the resources we use are always available should i need them. the tutors and assessors are available to contact via email or again face to face when required.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The qualifications i am working towards have helped to provide me with the skills needed to be successful in an engineering role , they provide both the theory and some of the hands on skills i use on a day to day basis. this has improved my knowledge of the industry vastly.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are many extra activities that can be joined and taken part in within the work place or even the college itself both have social events and activities that cover a broad range and there should be something that will appeal to most peoples interests and hobbies throughout the apprenticeship.

So far Unilever have supported me in learning high quality qualifications and the needed skills to help me progress through my engineering career , they allow me the ability to choose the pathway that i take and follow my interests within the work place whilst providing good employee benefits and facilities
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Unilever?
Apply yourself to the interviews and assessments and give it your best shot as the interviews and assessments you go through during the process can be quite testing and are designed what level your skills and abilities are already at before proceeding with the training. the testing and assessments are not always engineering focused.
