Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
On a day to day basis at the moment I go to college and take a level 3 engineering course full time. This involves different things and lesson such as CAD, health and safety, maths, mechanical and electrical principles, drawing, comms. Which will help me with my job in the future.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy my programme as I’ve learnt a lot of new subjects and interesting things along the way. Although it isn’t as structured for my trade so I think it will be exciting to find out more within my next year. I enjoy meeting new people and different trades as well along the way.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have used a lot of determination and motivation from starting my apprenticeship because the work has been hard therefore I’ve needed to keep pushing myself to do the best I can within my apprenticeship. Also adaptability as I’ve had to adapt to many different environments such as even working from home.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
2/5
Not as good as it could be due to tutors getting confused with the work they give us and what class is up to date with what etc. Sometimes the tutors will repeat work with us when they’ve already gave us it or gone over it with us before.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
I feel the support is okay however we get left in the dark quite a lot with information or it gets left last minute. Certain trades don’t get as much information than others I don’t know whether this is done to the employer or not but there is lack of communication
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
Some tutors are better than others, some are more helpful and understanding however some are very demanding. There has been a lot of stress this year due to having a shorter year and starting later so that’s what it might be down to however I think they should understand it’s the same for the students
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
I know some of the things I’m doing are going to help towards my role such as health and safety as it’s very important to know these things when working in the environment I’m going to be working in. Also the general subject as well will help.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Not that I’m aware of the only things I know of are apprentice council but I’ve not heard of any other activities such as sports teams and socials activities. However I think it would be a good idea to have something like that or even an event every now and then.
