Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
In the apprenticeship we have two sides of our training, we will either be in the British gas academy learning the technical skills for our job role and learning how to work within safety protocols, or we will be on "patch" which is out on the field with another engineer learning on the job how to not only do the job but also seal with customers.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I have enjoyed the programmer, it has been a difficult time through covid to rework the programme to suit new requirements of safety, and therefore caused some stress for everyone, but it has been a very good programme, there has been times were it was questioned if we were making any progress in what we where learning but those fears were quickly dealt with.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learnt many new skills through this role, its a role that requires many different aspects, so I have learnt plumbing both plastic and copper, how heating appliances work and how to identify faults on them, servicing and repairs on the heating system, customer service, and many practical skill like basic brick laying, plastering and use of power tools.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
In the beginning was when covid was just starting and it put lots of question marks over the whole course, and for a while the original structure of the course was non existent, however after many reworks of the timetables and all aspects of the apprenticeship, it seems a lot more structured now.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
The employer has been great, we have been supplied with all the tools and equipment we have needed to do our job role, there are so many avenues we can take if we have a problem or a complaint, and every part of the organisation seems always willing to help if its ever needed.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
The support is there, but often trainers are bust with many things and on occasion they have not been avaliable to give the help we need, to an extent that is a negative, however there are times on the job were you need to think for yourself and fix things for yourself, but when the trainer is present the support is there and we learn a lot.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
Through the center training, we learn all the practical skills we need to preform our role in the company, there is aspects of the job you don't come across often on patch and having the academy learning fills in the blanks in our knowledge that we many not come across often but still need to know how to work on and make sure it is safe for the customer.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
We have apps for social networks, we're we can share thoughts with other people across the business both positive and negative which allows for open healthy conversations, hoe due to current circumstances with the pandemic any large events that may have been, are on permanent hold until future notice for safety.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Centrica British Gas to a friend?
Yes
Why?
They are a good company, to not only work for but from what I have heard from customers are good to be a customer of as well, many have been british gas customers for longer then I have been alive and have said they would never change due to the great service they have had over many years.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Centrica British Gas?
My advice would be for anyone joining British gas with no previous experience, is to take your time and learn it properly, dont rush through what they are showing you, its important work and a mistake can put someone's life on the line, so while you have the time to make your mistakes I a controlled environment, and can learn form them, make the most of that opportunity, and don't through away the opportunity its a great company to get to work for, and you will have some great opportunities for the future.
