Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Attending college and learning skills which could help me in the future in my role as a mechanical designer. Once we go into the business I will be in work for 4 days a week and working alongside other people in the offices and I will also attend college 1 day a week to earn my HNC.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I have enjoyed the programme so far as I have developed a lot of new skills while also meeting new people from different backgrounds. Some of the work in college is also interesting and you develop more knowledge into how things are created developed and maintained which makes you appreciate products more.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt how to use CAD and do engineering drawings which will help me once I go into the business. I have also learnt more about other subjects while in college such as maths, business and electrical principles. I think that developing these skills will help me once I start in the business and make it easier for me to transition.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
I think that the programme is well organised and structured as you always know what you are doing and when you need to do it. There is also always help available if you need it and there is always someone that you can get in contact with if you need to.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
We receive a lot of support from our employer and they also make sure we know where we can go to get help with any problems we have whether it’s inside of work or outside. We also have Emily in college who is always available to talk to if you ever have a problem.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
We receive a lot of support from furness college and they teach us everything we need to know. If we ever fall behind or are struggling they are also always available to help and will do something to help make things less stressful and make sure you can complete the work to the best of your ability.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I think that my qualification will help me perform in my roll well as I have learnt a lot of skills which I didn’t possess before. I think the main skill which will help me is learning how to use CAD as that will be part of my day to day work in the business.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Due to coronavirus it had been difficult to put on events outside of work to get involved in however we had resilience training which was beneficial as it was different to the normal college routine. We would also usually go on outward bound which would help us to develop a team bond and have fun at the same time.
