Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

As an annual mechanical placement student the role consisted of working within different departments (facilities, fuels, drawing office, Work shops...) and across the different production lines on site. The role helped to develop and understanding of what the different departments do and also allowed you to pick up lots of different jobs and slight larger project type work working within the departments and across the lines. Various engineering related jobs from designing, 3d printing and document prep to surveys of plant, physically going on the lines to problem solve and data analysis.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Good amount of responsibility considering you are a placement student. Once you settle in to the site and get to know a few people and do a few good jobs you can be given jobs / projects where you have a lot more responsibility and are responsible for a lot more.

Lots of skills developed, from people skills and IT (word, excel, powerpoint, teams...) to more engineering knowledge. Decision making, problem solving, coordinating, meeting deadlines, project management, time management...

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

You are constantly supported by managers and colleagues. There are formal weekly checkups with managers to check progress. Everyone is extremely happy to help you learn and help out with projects as long as you show willing and enthusiasm
