Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
My role involves various research projects and tasks within the recruitment/ talent development teams, the managing of social media group, liaising with candidates, arranging right to work checks/ interviews etc.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I was given a lot of responsibility during my placement - having to liaise with external candidates and business professionals meant that I needed to develop a professional and mature approach when engaging with them - in turn this has helped me also develop my communication and judgement skills (reading the room) - I now think much more carefully about what I say/ do whereas before I would act more impulsively without much thought in situations.

Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
Having to network within a large company has meant that I’ve developed my communication skills and the confidence to be able to speak to professionals I’ve never met which was very daunting at first. I’ve also developed time management skills along with planning/organisation skills in order to meet the necessary deadlines which if not met could have a knock on effect to other people - this responsibility has helped me mature.

Support and Guidance
How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I received a lot of support throughout my placement. The members of the recruitment and talent teams gave me lots of scope and opportunity to work on areas that interested me and never made me feel worried to ask them for help whenever I was unsure of anything. They made me feel comfortable and welcome within the teams (no cliquey atmosphere) and gave me good clear guidance and constructive feedback during my placement which was very helpful!

Company Culture
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The talent and recruitment teams were both very welcoming and supportive during my placement and I didn’t ever feel scared to raise any queries. The workplace culture at Tata was very positive and everyone within HR is willing to help if you ever need it. There was no cliquey uncomfortable feeling and everyone got along with everyone!

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I really enjoyed my placement as I got experience in many of the areas within recruitment and talent and I had the opportunity to conduct various research projects which were very interesting and gave me a level of responsibility that I may not have had elsewhere. Human Resources is the face of the business so I had to build networking skills which allowed me to build relationships with lots of different professionals within the business - this was very exciting!
