Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I work with a skilled fitter who teaches me all of the tasks that I will be expected to carry out. I am given hands on experience, using specialised tooling and equipment.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I am always excited to come in everyday as the fitters that I work with are so accommodating and always help me with any problems that I have. The time goes by so fast, everyday is different.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have developed many skills such as drilling and bolting but I have recently been working with sealant much more frequently and am familiarising myself with the different techniques.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
I am always kept up to date with where I am supposed to be in terms of academic work and any training or important noticed are sent via email way ahead of time so that we have time to prepare.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I am able to text my manager whenever I need him as I can rely on him to resolve any problems I have as soon as possible. Everyone seems to be looking out for you.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
Contacting lecturers and TTO’s is simple. They often respond instantaneously and always point you in the right direction. Especially with having virtual sessions, they do everything they can to ensure that apprentices have all of the necessary resources and documents required to complete tasks.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I can talk to the fitter that I work with using jargon which makes me feel more confident as I am more aware of the tooling, fasteners etc.
It also makes everything that we have learnt much more clear as the product is right in front of you.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Gen-A are always hosting events for apprentices to take part in. The company also have their own football team and a new gym.
Options are endless!

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Airbus to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It is the best company that I have worked for! The apprenticeship is hands on from the start and everyone there encourages each other - everyone is so kind and welcoming.
It’s proof that working can actually be fun!
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Airbus?
Take your time during the college training and take everything in. Always push yourself to do better than what you think you could because you’ll find that you probably can - I struggled to believe in myself and my skills but once I did, I improved even more.
