Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I am currently working alongside section engineers looking at how the ground heaves and how this will effect construction works. I submit permits, ensure documents are sent between clients and contractors and provide information on where we are at on the works programme.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
I enjoy the programme massively but i do find it can be very stressful and a lot of pressure. The teams are very supportive and that helps massively but finding the balance between uni and work can be difficult sometimes.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt a lot about civil engineer, enhanced my IT skills, used various softwares such as P6, CAD and Bimxtra. I've have also worked within several teams and learnt how everyone plays a vital role.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
Very well structured, i'm always aware as to when uni terms take place and our next modules. I am allowed time within my team when needed to work on uni and everything i learn within work is invaluable to my learning.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive a massive amount of support from my team, being from giving me time when needed to focus on assingments, to helping me when im stuck with assignments. Plenty of catch ups are in place to see how i am doing and whether any support is needed.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
I feel like they could be a bit more supportive, working on an apprenticeship doesn't allow for much time to be physically at university and i feel when you leave you're kind of forgotten about, having more regular catch up with tutors would be better.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
Certain modules within university massively help me in my every day job and gives me the training i need to do certain tasks. However others i am struggling to see the link, maybe because of the type of project i am currently working on.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Yes. I have recently been involved i setting up a early careers forum where we ensure social events happen.

Yes
Why?
I feel kier is a great company to work for, it offers several type of projects and gives staff the support to progress how they wish. Kier is also a very inclusive environment and ensures everyone is included.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Kier Group?
I'd recommend to have a curious mind, ask as many questions as you possibly can. Be prepared for some challenging projects but never be worried to ask for help. i would advise them to be open minded to the challenges you may face.
