Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
My role as a Design Engineering Apprentice involves working on different schemes, producing a number of different documents for those schemes and working on drawings throughout different phases of the project.
Day-to-day activities usually include having daily meetings via Teams, liaising with the team about what tasks need completing for the day and emailing colleagues throughout the business.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learned quite a number of different CAD skills and terminology regarding the schemes I am working on.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
It has been challenging due to the pandemic and working at home, but the schemes I have worked on have been structured pretty well.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
If I ask for help someone I am working with will take time and try to explain stuff over Teams.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
It could be better, but has understandably been harder due to the pandemic.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
It helps to highlight different information regarding health and safety in the workplace and other aspects of work we do for schemes.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes, we regularly catch up in the office for food, or play football together every few weeks.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Kier Group to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Kier is a great place to work, as all the team are friendly, helpful and all enjoy meeting up sociably outside of work to take part in different activities.
The work at Kier is enjoyable, you are always learning something new, no day is the same. You also get to take part in training courses that Kier provide to help you learn new skills like CAD training etc.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Kier Group?
Be truthful when applying for the role, try and remain calm if you get invited to an interview and as long as you are a sociable person willing to learn new skills, organised, willing to work hard to gain qualifications in the industry you will fit in fine.
