Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Data analyst role in which i am learning how to code using python, sql and pandas.
Day to day, i am involved in a few projects where i am using techniques that i have learned from Cambridge spark and using this to find trends within datasets. I am currently doing some EDA on a project where I have installed sweetviz for quick visualisations
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I am thoroughly enjoying the program as I am constantly learning as well as developing new skills. This has been a great experience so far, integrating with a completely new team, new company and all of this done virtually. It has been smooth and the team has been great! Very looking forward to the see what the future holds

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Yes all the skills that i am learning through Cambridge spark are all new. I have no previous experience or knowledge of coding so all the tools such as Python, SQL and pandas etc... are all new tools for me. I have also learnt new skills through GSK mainly, how to communicate effectively through Teams as we are all working from home

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
I think it is somewhat well structured however it is tough especially as its all online. If we were in the office, it would be much better but nevertheless, we have 1 day of Cambridge spark every 2 weeks and that adds a bit more learning as well as a break from work
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
I do receive a decent amount of support but there is not a great structure of support unfortunately. I have suggested ways in which to improve this but we will see if that changes but there is definitely some support but as we are a new team, i guess there isnt a perfect structure in place yet
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
There is a lot of support available and it is really up to the individual to take that onboard. There are always tutors available to help with any queries as well as regular catchups so Cambridge Spark are definitely doing a very decent job of this. The staff are extremely helpful when needed
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
Without my qualification and my training provider, i would have absolutely 0 clue of what i am doing, how to start, where to look etc... All the training provided is enabling me to integrate into real life projects and make a valuable contribution as the tools are a completely new language to me
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Currently not so much due to the virus however we do have Microsoft teams calls every Friday after work to keep the socials up as much as possible. We also did do a virtual Christmas party as well as an Easter event so the team do try as much as possible to keep it going.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend GSK to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Yes because, they are a great company with amazing ethics. They also believe in the apprenticeship scheme and we dont feel like a 'typical apprentice'. I feel very part of the team and feel like i can genuinely contribute as well. The company is well run with a strong leadership team who always want to hear your thoughts
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to GSK?
I think, initially, make sure you know what you are applying for and make sure its a fit for you. Don't apply just to get a job. This helps both GSK and yourself as you dont want to be in a career that you are not interested in. Also during interviews and assessment centres, don't over study, be yourself!
