Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
We were put into a team with interns from different streams to work on building recommendations on a set business question, ours was centred around British Gas. Kept in regular contact with grad support and stakeholder for constant feedback and suggestions to develop ideas, and talked to people in appropriate business areas to gather more insight into the problem. At the end of the placement we presented to the sponsor who set our question and others in the company who were interested in the project.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
The team was essentially independent throughout the project, we worked on it start to finish and were responsible for contacting the appropriate people to set up meetings and get data. Grad support was there to help; they would point us to helpful contacts, have regular meetings to provide feedback, and critiqued our report and presentation.

Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
Gained a lot of insight into the company and the energy industry as a whole due to discussions with colleagues and sessions put on by the organisers. Also developed data analysis techniques through working on the project, getting advice from grad support, and training in excel and python. Finally gained experience in business communication and presentations, and working in a team with others with different experience and skills.

The grads and placement organisers were really helpful to reach out to for advice or just a chat. The people from the wider business we reached out to were very friendly and were always keen to help wherever they could.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I really enjoyed the placement, the atmosphere was so welcoming. Our stakeholders seemed keen to take our ideas forward and start implementation which was very encouraging. There was so much room for personal development, and chatting with fellow interns and grads was really enjoyable.
