Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My job role Includes performing engineering activities and maintenance on a day to day basis, this can include preventative maintenance which includes performing maintenance routines to prevent the machines from breaking down unexpectedly. Also more recently i have been more involved with larger projects to bring new equipment into the area.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I thoroughly enjoy my apprenticeship program and have no regrets about it. Everyday I am presented with new challenges to face and this allows me to continuously work on my overall abilities, improving me as a technician and as a person in general. I also love all the opportunities that GSK offer as there is an opportunity to do almost anything you could ever want.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

in my 3 years of my apprenticeship, I have learnt many new skills and definitely developed almost all of my skills. for example before my apprenticeship I had little experience with hand skills but after spending 6 months at college working on it I have massively improved and I am very confident In my abilities now. I have also massively developed my mechanical and electrical fault finding skills as these skills are required day to day in my job role.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The program is very well structured. we begin in the first year, with doing a full practical year at South West Durham, here we perform lots of practical tasks such as welding, fabrication, mechanical maintenance, and electrical maintenance. After the 1st year we are then brought onto site and begin settling into our first rotations of 4. Here we shadow fully qualified technicians to allow us to develop and increase our skills even more, and learn about the work place environment
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive as much support as I require from my employer. If I ever have any issues or concerns I raise them immediately with whop ever is appropriate. any issues are always resolved very quickly and there is never a time where an issue will fly under the radar and not be resolved.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

South West Durham Training (SWDT) are also very good at providing support when required. all the tutors are very understanding of any concerns you may have and are always open to suggestions to improve. if I ever have any issues I raise them immediately to either a tutor or another member of staff at the center.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

My qualifications line up perfectly with what is excepted from me in my role at the work place, there isn't a course that I am doing that wouldn't provide me with the skills I need to work better day to day at site. vice versa there isn't any other courses I could think of that would benefit me anymore then I already am. GSK And SWDT have tailored this apprenticeship perfectly for what i am looking to achieve.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There used to be lots of extra curricular activities to participate in at work, such as outwards bounds trips, residentials, trips to other GSK sites, resilience events, social activities such as nights out, charity football matches, networking events with other GSK employees and apprentices and loads more, However these are currently limited due to covid 19 restrictions.

Why?
I would recommended GSK to any of my friends as it is a brilliant company to work for, you are well looked after to all your needs. Provided with all Appropriate training that you may ever require in your role and are supplied with any amount of resource required to enhance your skills and abilities at any given moment.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to GSK?
I would advise people to just be themselves and to portray the GSK Core Values:
