Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
Commis Chef Apprentice role involved working in the kitchen of Tap on the Line. Duties included prepping for the daily menu as well as the sunday roast menu every week. I also needed to carry out service, collect deliveries, maintain, rotate and rer label stock and clean when needed
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
2/5
The programme started strong and was very rushed towards the end. As the pandemic kicked in some of the university modules were skipped and the assessments were rushed. During lockdown the teachers made a terrible effort to stay in touch and keep us updated on the EPA.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
I've further developed my cooking skills as well as my time management and team work skills.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
1/5
It wasn't very well organised. By November we were ready to start the EPA but instead the lecturers stalled the entire programme until April 2021
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
They are there to help when needed
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
1/5
Very little. We were ready to start the EPA in November and due to lockdown the provider stalled the course until April rather than helping us get in out of the way early
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
Taught me the basics of cooking
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5
No

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Fuller's to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend the pubs to work at. Thye have a great variety of dishes for each menu making each pub feel unique and influenced by seaosnality. But apprenticeship wise I wouldn't recommend the training providers at UWL that fullers paid for
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Fuller's?
Be prepared that its a 0 hour contract and the rotas heavily influenced by demand. You will likely never have weekends off, never bank holidays off and certainly never get the christmas month off
