Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I am a Commis Chef which involves me working within the kitchen assisting to the Head Chef and Chef De Partie with kitchen duties, mainly in helping with prep, as well as during service.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy it very much, particularly during lockdown, being an apprentice meant i could still develop and learn while my workplace was closed. Also it due to the nature of the apprenticeship I can apply what I learn at college to work and vice versa.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I had no previous professional kitchen experience, so everything I do in my job I have been taught and learnt at Fullers. I was a keen home cook and have developed those skills more, but have learnt many more new ones both at work and at college for the apprenticeship.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The program so far has been very well organised, ocassionally there has been last minute changes but only due to covid restrictions and various lockdowns, making it difficult to keep up.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
My employer has given me ample support, particularly in regards to travel to and from college as well as college being part of my five day wekk, giving me a strong work-life balance.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
The training provider has offered support not only academically, but individually, both through personal development and constant checking in to ensure I am happy with the course. They have kept me busy over covid lockdowns and are constantly keeping me engaged.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
The qualification, as well as teaching me fundamentals, also helps me break down the methods and practices of my role in a stress free environment, this allows me to learn easily and then apply to my job when I am working.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5
None that I know of.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Fuller's to a friend?
Yes
Why?
They have developed my skills a lot and offer lots of support, enabling me to learn and excel in a short space of time. They keep clear, open communication at a job with a focus on work life balance, making you feel valued and an effective part of a team.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Fuller's?
I would say to go in with an open mind, and never think you are not good enough for a job there. I initially applied for a CDP role knowing I wouldnt get it, and was pleasantly suprised to get an offer for a job with training for a qualification.
