Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
2/5
Currently learning maintenance on old and broken mechanical equipment within the skills academy.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
1/5
Started off with high expectations and couldnt wait to get started. Unfortunately this was slowly sapped out of me due to a very out dated apprenticeship, bad management/leadership and no recognition for working hard or being pro active.
Doesn't pay to be a winner here.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
1/5
Even though all the equipment is in poor condition from years of abuse with no hope of anything new due to a low budget, I have managed to learn new skills.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
1/5
The apprenticeship does have a structure but is very outdated and needs a jump start back to life.
Old broken equipment.
Old asbestos riddled building which leaks.
Old machinery that hasn't changed since they started along with no budget to improve anything.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
2/5
There are 2 instructors for mechanical maintenance, one is very knowledgeable and has a lot of experience. The other not so much and can be very unprofessional.
This leads to one of the instructors being over used whilst the other gets avoided.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
At the start of the apprenticeship there wasn't a lot of support, but since butting heads with the instructors we are now given a day for college work which has been a blessing and a great show of management and leadership skills.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
Some of the units don't really relate to my job role, but I understand it's relatable to engineering as a whole.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
1/5
Nope

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend AWE to a friend?
No
Why?
The face of the company comes off very professional and from the outside looking in looks like an amazing company to work for!
Unfortunately when you peel away that outer layer your I'm for a shock. I hope my experiences so far don't reflect the whole company
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to AWE?
If your thinking about joining AWE as an apprentice approach with caution! The assessment day is brilliant and incredibly professional! Unfortunately this isn't a reflection of the skills academy my only hope is when I out turn into the company things will be different.
