Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
My role involves getting involved with a design team. This could mean back drafting drawings, completing some modelling, filling out ECR forms, making sure the model is up to date as well as uploading stuff to teamcenter. These can all be done daily and are all used in the design role.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
This programme can be as enjoyable as you make it. You could spend your time sat there not wanting to interact or learn new things, or you could be interested in the work and learn so much. I enjoy this programme a lot as I am curious about learning new things and want to expand my knowledge as much as possible.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Since I have started this role I have learnt lots of new skills. For example, I now know how to use CAD software at an advanced level as well as other software's such as Teamcenter. Coming into his role it has also helped me improve my time keeping and making sure I can control my work load.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
2/5
When it comes to organisation, I cant truthfully say it is the best. There has been a lot of job role changes, as well as us apprentices not being informed on any changes that are being made. We were informed not long ago that our qualification at the end of our apprentiship is changing, which was a big shock to us.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
Our employer is always there for us if we need advice on anything or if we have any concerns. They always make sure they make time for us and never leave us without anyone to talk to. We have 12 week reviews which helps us keep in contact with one another.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
We receive some support when it comes towards working for our qualifications. sometimes it might feel like there is little to no support there, but they usually try there best to keep on top of it. We are recently changing courses so it has been hard for them to try and keep up with everyone.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I feel like the qualification I will gain throughout my apprentiship will help me preform better in many ways. It will allow me to have more experiences when it comes to tackling different types of work, as well as allowing me to have the knowledge to be able to tackle new forms of work.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Work have recently provided the opportunity to take part in the silver queens award. This is a week of taking part in activities outdoors. At the beginning of our apprentiship we went on a week outwards bound. this included activities such as canoeing, camping, rock climbing and so on. it was a very good experience.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
BAE Systems offer amazing opportunities to people as young as 16. It is a very good kick start to someone's career and they take care of their employees very well. They give everyone a chance to improve themselves as much as possible and to work their way up as far as they can reach.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
When applying for BAE Systems, apply for the job that you think you are most suited for, and not the one with the most money. However, once you are in the business, you can move around within the company to jobs that are more suited for you. It is defiantly worth applying.
