Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Since I started with the Company in late August last year I spent a lot of time getting to know how to use software like P6 and SmartView but since I have been trained I was given a lot of responsibility in my first placement, doing lower level tasks that ensure the company run smoothly like making sure hours are booked to correct tasks codes and keeping an eye on different monthly figures to do with cost and schedule.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I greatly enjoy my programme thus far as it is has been easy to integrate in my first office job and first time job as I joined AWE straight from college, and whilst the programme has been mainly virtual it has enjoyable and engaging making sure I always have work to do and know how to do it.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt and developed many skills in the early days of my Apprenticeship. This has been easy to do at AWE thanks to their virtual online learning platform. The skills I have learned/developed the most is report writing and presentation skills as I have been doing these frequently and received guidance and feedback along the way.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The programme is structured fairly well with a number of placements that let me get a feel for a number of different functions in the company like cost, planning and estimating. This year the apprenticeship hasn't been planned as far ahead usual, due to Covid but I am now on my second placement with no hitches up to this point.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive a great deal of support from my employer as they are very supportive if I need any help with my day to day tasks at work, the content or assignments from college. The company is also very supportive in regards to wellbeing, making sure all employees receive any support they need.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
I receive a lot of support as every Monday I attend college, so every Monday is devoted to my learning in which I have no work based tasks so my learning is a priority and I get all the qualifications I am working towards achieving as well as the BTECs I take
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
It has helped me with a lot of relevant skills that appear in both my work and college tasks. These involve presenting / public speaking skills as well as more general functional skills like Maths (at BTEC level, as I already have my A level qualification.) I also have taken a BTEC on Health and Safety which the company helped me with by using the company library
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
As of yet there are no events I could have really got involved with due to Covid 19 but I am aware events like a company based Dragon's Den exist, and that in the past events such as a company wide sports day have taken place on multiple occasions.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend AWE to a friend?
Yes
Why?
AWE is generally a great company with a lot of good training and learning opportunities throughout all facets of the company. I see this first hand as an apprentice and know that undergraduates and graduates feel the same so have in fact recommended the company to my friend who wants an undergraduate placement in the Summer.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to AWE?
I would say that approach the day, or interview with an open mind and be honest with what you want to achieve as it is more than likely that AWE will help you achieve your goals and aspirations with no ceiling on your potential or development with the company and beyond.
