Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My role as an electronic engineer apprentice includes doing electronics based tasks to gain knowledge of key components used in electronics. On a day to day basis i use a circuit schematic to design a circuit layout , research components and then build the circuit required. i use soldering skills to put components onto a piece of board and then will test the circuit once i'm finished to see if it works.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoy my apprenticeship , i can see my progression from first tasks to now actually building circuits and seeing them working. I enjoy being able to go to college to understand the theory but love to be in work learning the practical sides of things to put the theory to use.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
i have learnt many new skills including soldering skills, i hadn't done this before and i have now built this into a skill through practice. Another skill is presenting skills , as a team we create PowerPoints and present to each other. I have also learnt more time management skills, setting my self times to complete a task.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
My programme is very organised. The programme is split into set tasks that we have to work through to build on skills and design more complex circuits. Its in a very logical way and as it gets harder you can learn from previous easier circuits you have created. My programme also includes taking recordings and evaluations of my work to keep as evidence of my learning.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
My manager is very supportive if i have any questions i ask and if she doesn't know she will research and learn with me. She also supplies resources for me to help learn myself rather than her telling me , this helps my knowledge rather than just being given it. The head of the apprenticeship is very supportive, he often schedules meetings to review your learning and make sure you have the support you need, he also asks for reviews often to keep constantly improving what is going on. Support is easily accessible online or in person.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
My mentor is highly trained and can help with my questions and work. support is easily accessible if i need help. Problems are very easy to report and very quickly followed up which is very good to make me feel as though something is being done about it. All people around are constantly offering support and often recognise we are the "next generation" and want to help us achieve to a high level.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
At the moment i am constantly learning new things and building on knowledge i already know which will help after my apprenticeship . I have used theory that i learn in college and in work to help build circuits and understand why things happen. i have not yet completed my qualification.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
i believe there are many extra curricular activities at AWE but covid is currently restricting many of them. I know AWE often do charity runs, and other activities like this in order to build teams and for people to socialise and be involved in an activity or event like this.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend AWE to a friend?
Yes
Why?
AWE has helped me a huge amount considering i have left school and this is a completely different environment. I am constantly learning new things that i enjoy and want to learn more about. I'd recommend to anyone wanting to try something new and wanting to work in a good working environment.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to AWE?
i'd say be trurthful , write as much about you as possible, think about what you'd want to hear. Use research about AWE to include in your cv and cover letter. on assessment days and interviews be confident and believe in yourself. its a blessing to get through any parts of the application process and be proud.
