Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
It was mostly talks on different areas of the business, both regarding Global Data and Analytics and Sales. We also got sessions on the sell side and buy side, as well as ESG and Philanthropies in Bloomberg. All the sessions were very interactive and we got the chance to ask questions both during and after each session. We also did a chat simulation in the Terminal, which was a simulation of the role of an analyst who had to help out a costumer. Finally we had to pressent a group project and we had time to prepare for it throughout the week.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
We got a lot of information on the topic. First we got an overview of the Global Data división and Analytics and Sales. Throughout the week we got other sessions that touched upon other areas of the business. We also got to attend sessions on more specific areas of each division such as Fixed Income, or Equity. We got to learn the difference between and Specialist and a Super Specialist, a Data Analyst and a Data Specialist… The best part is that we got to interact with people from each division and ask them specific questions.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
Yes! I got to develop my public speaking skills and my presenting skills through the impromptu speech session and the prepared talk session as well as presenting the project in front of professionals from Bloomberg and my colleagues.
I also develop my technical knowledge of finance and technology learning about the sell side and the buy side players and ESG investing. Furthermore I learnt how to navigate the Terminal and some of its functions, as well as joe to help out costumers through the chat simulation. I also learnt how to analyze the data from the terminal and introduce it into Excel to manage it.

Company Culture

How would you rate business leader involvement during the insight
5/5
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Everyone was very friendly and open. Everyone seemed more than willing to help and answer our questions. Another thing that I would say about the culture is that everyone seemed to be concerned about the important issues such as sustainability, social justice… The atmosphere was diverse in terms of gender, race, background and prior experience. The fact that we could instant message people through the Terminal also helped make everyone more accessible and the atmosphere was more linear.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
I found it really enjoyable, mostly because of how much I learnt and the people I got to meet and interact with. I do have to say that it was very intense and it required a lot of attention and concentration for many hours every day for five days, which was maybe made harder by the virtual environment. But all in all I would say it was a very beneficial and enjoyable experience, as I got to learn about Bloomberg, engage in interesting sessions and meet some great people.

Recommendations and Advice

Please rate the future employment prospects at Bloomberg
5/5
Would you recommend Bloomberg to a friend?
Yes
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Bloomberg
I would say that Bloomberg is a very culture driven company so the main thing is that throughout the application process you come across as someone that would fit in with the culture of the company and who the people assessing you would like to work with. Having strong and similar values is also important, especially in topics such as diversity and inclusion, and sustainability. Finally I would say that having a strong technical background or knowledge is not essential as long as you show that you are very interested and willing to learn.
