Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
I am a line chef. I prepare food to restaurant and brand standards. Whilst I am preparing many dishes I adhere to general health and safety rules and make sure i maintain a clean and organised work space. I work in all sections of the kitchen and have learned every dish specification and how to do everything in the kitchen.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
I very much enjoyed my apprenticeship programme and it opened up many opportunities for me such as I was nominated to represent Greene King at a hospitality fare in the house of commons. I have also represented the company in broadcasts to schools encouraging apprenticeships because of how much i enjoyed mine.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
I have learnt many new skills, I now know how to cook every dish on the menu and have learnt many new cooking skills during my apprenticeship such as how to properly use a blowtorch and improving my knife skills. I have learnt alot about how to work well within a team and keep a steady level of communication throughout service.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
It was well structured but unfortunately due to corona virus it was not easy to keep up regular visits or contact due to personal situations but other than that my trainer tried to keep in contact with me a lot and kept up to date that I was sure I was going to pass my apprenticeship.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
My employer supported me very well helping me get the opportunities i did such as going to the house of commons to represent the company. My kitchen manager was is a great mentor and teaches me a lot. However, I was not allocated time to do my apprenticeship work whilst at work and I would work a lot of hours so it would be hard to do a lot of revision.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
my training provider [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the Higherin Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] was great at showing me support he made sure we were in contact even though it was difficult during coronavirus. Even during coronavirus he was still contacting me to see that I was on track with my learning and if I had any questions to ask him ever.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
1/5
Although I enjoyed my apprenticeship I do feel that I am a more practical learner which is why I chose to work in a kitchen so I feel that I personally learn more from watching my peers and less from the training within the apprenticeship. However I did also learn some necessary vocabulary and terms to use within the industry.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
We are a very close group at my work and attend a lot of events together such as social gatherings at the pub or at somebodys house. We also go to watch our friend who works Front of house with us play gigs. Some people also play golf together from work and some people do charity events such as coffee mornings.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Greene King to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend Greene King to a friend as I have loved working for the company and have received many opportunities through the company that I would not have else where which has opened many future opportunities as well. They are also fair with holidays and I believe my pay which has been raised by my boss was raised very fairly to match work load.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Greene King?
I would suggest that they should be open to working at a fast paced environment but still maintaining excellent standards. They should also be a good team member and work well with other people, communication is very important within hospitality and it can be the difference in a service going well or wrong so make sure you keep talking to everyone around you.
