Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
On a day to day basis I often complete tasks from my apprenticeship which I sometimes have allocated study time where I can build my knowledge for my qualification. But on the job I take calls from customers regarding renewals or new buildings quotes to meet their travel insurance needs.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
2/5
If I am being completely honest. I really do love the job I do. It has been the best thing joining DLG but the apprenticeship side of things has felt a bit disconnected and I do not look forward to the learning side of things with my tutor which is disappointing.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
Yes I have learnt many new skills which have been evident in my job role. I would say I have much more advanced digital skills since I am on the computer everyday and my telephone manner has been improved dramatically subsequently I think I have definitely improved my English skills.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
1/5
I have been feeling very at ease with how the apprenticeship has been going but all of a sudden I feel like everything has come at once and I am struggling to manage things right now. There seems to always be some issues with recording the learning we are doing and I’ve received negative feedback months after completing tasks which isn’t useful.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive a lot of support from my employer for example my team leader is always there if I need him and I trust him very much and am very honest and open with how I am feeling. We also have monthly progress reviews which always irons out any doubts I may have.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
1/5
Although I receive meetings with how I am feeling. My trainer does seem quite disinterested in the conversations we have and seems as if she is just following a script sometimes. However I cannot fault her on the communications side of things as if I ever have an issue I can always email her and she gets back to me promptly.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
I think the qualification does help me somewhat with the knowledge for certain situations with customers however over all I think the qualification isn’t really that relevant to my job role. However I should expect it to connect a bit better in the future I hope as time goes on
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There is always something going on at DLG! The yammer page is great with keeping connected even throughout COVID. Although I haven’t got involved too much I can appreciate there are options there but it is my choice if I want to take part. DLG is great at bringing people together

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Direct Line to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I think DLG even throughout the pandemic is a great place to work. It is like one big family and everyone really does care if you are struggling or are needing help. I think the best thing is the development as they really can push you and give you huge confidence which is why I am wanting to progress with this amazing company in the future.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Direct Line?
Be yourself. Bring out the values and how you could use them. Think outside of the box and show huge enthusiasm for the job you are applying and just let that shine. It’s not all about the experience you have but how you portray yourself to others and you will be fine.
