Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
To represent clients in planning matters and applications, including both through local plan promotion and development management.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I thoroughly enjoy my programme. It provides an extremely good balance of independence and team working, as well as large key clients and projects from a wide range of sectors from day one.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have developed many skills I was taught in my undergraduate degree, such as report writing and have also learnt many new skills, such as interaction with clients, and the importance of policy within the planning process.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
Savills as an employer are very keen to ensure their apprentices and graduates succeed so they do everything they can to improve organising and structure to ensure this. This includes workshops, catch-up meetings, networking sessions and cross-departmental talks.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive lots of support from my employer, from my team allowing me to have Thursdays to fully concentrate on university work and not expecting me to 'fit in' other jobs they require in between, and Savills graduate team for providing information and talks about the upcoming APC etc.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
1/5
London South Bank provide little support for apprentices, and many of us on the course are unsure on many aspects, such as timeframes for APC submissions, requirements for the APC and how and when to fill out log books .
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
The qualification allows me to better understand the fundamental principles behind Town Planning and the 'day to day' role of being a planner. It provides a 'purpose'.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Currently due to COVID, there have been little opportunities for extra-curricular activities, but I have been assured that there will be once restrictions lift.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Savills to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Savills is a thoroughly supportive and enjoyable working environment where all staff members of all seniority levels want you to learn and succeed, whilst growing personally and professionally in an interesting department.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Savills?
Just remember they want you to succeed too, no interview questions or tasks are there to trick you. Don't worry about going overboard, better to show how passionate you are, rather than keep quiet and not portray it enough.
