Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I thoroughly enjoy working for Siemens. They have really gone the extra mile to ensure I am happy. On a day to day basis I am shadowing senior engineers learning the ins and outs of the job. I also study a higher national certificate at college, along with an NVQ
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
As I previously said I thoroughly enjoy my job. I go home after a long day and feel as if I have achieved something new each day. Slowly turning into the engineer I want to become in the future. There are very challenging days but those are the most rewarding.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I was based in harrods department store in Knightsbridge, London for my first work place. I cannot explain how much I learnt whilst working there. From the technical side of the job, to dealing with customers first hand along with any criticism and praise. This also links back to my college courses and NVQ

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
My apprenticeship is well Structured and organised. Whether that be my work placements, training courses or even meetings and reviews. There is always someone I can rely on to guide me in the right direction if I am ever confused on instructions. This is why I believe it is well structured.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive a lot of support. Whether that may be work support, college support (educational) or even personal support (due to being off sick) the company is very understanding that there are certain things that cannot be prevented such as coronavirus. At that time I was supported the whole way through by my line manager and colleagues s
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
This year I am working on a Higher national certificate in electrical/electronic engineering. This is a challenging course, despite working from home and via Microsoft teams. I feel as if I am supported the whole way by my college and management. If there is an issue, there will be a solution after an email or phone call.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I have completed 2 engineering courses in the first year of my apprenticeship. These courses helped me understand the basics of engineering. Since then I have developed into a more electronic/electrical based role which is why I am now studying a hnc in electronic/electrical engineering. I am hoping to progress onto a higher national diploma after this course.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are many online events. Such as coffee meetings where we can discuss how we are all feeling and gives us someone to talk to in these challenging times. There is also the opportunity to join virtual yoga classes run by someone too. This year (coronavirus pandemic) has prevented any other types of extra curricular activities

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Siemens to a friend?
Yes
Why?
As previously said. Siemens have supported me the whole way through. I absolutely love what I do and that strives me to succeed even more. Siemens are a pioneer in this industry and their engineers prove that. I hope to become a successful engineer working for Siemens and representing them.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Siemens?
Siemens are a huge company, there are a lot of candidates applying for the same job. This does not mean it is impossible. I believe that someone should never give up so if you are rejected. Just keep going and don’t let the small setbacks prevent you from succeeding in something you are passionate about.
