Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
My weeks vary between training, university or working. At study I am studying a foundation degree in power engineering. For work, i work within PMC where i am learning to be a project supervisor where i will be quoting jobs and planning jobs.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
My programme fell over COVID which means my university and some training have been virtual, while this has added some stress, i have appreciated and enjoyed learning and taking part within my job.
But regardless of COVID i don't think my programme would have been much different.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learnt and developed loads of new and existing skills, both personal and technical.
- communication
- confidence
- social/presentation
- IT/technology
- organisation
- time management

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
2/5
Due to COVID my training courses have been delayed and put into this year, which has made the months very cramped and raised a lot of work so if the training had been booked for the summer when university had finished then it would have been a lot easier
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
my company have a good support programme/process in place, especially from the training side, i have witness/experienced some aspects of this.
in my depot, i have one mentor who i go on site with and feel is supportive and my manager often speaks about the importance of support
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
The training provider have a good support system in place, i haven't personally raised any problems. Training is normally well spread out meaning deadlines can be easily met, however, this has slightly changed due to covid. During last year, i received really good support with my exams which really helped me pass.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
Training is delegated specifically to me and my programme which helps gain knowledge and understanding of my job and what i need to be aware of. it gives both technical and theoretical knowledge which may not directly impact my job but is extremely helpful/useful to know.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
I have been getting involved with making some videos/ LinkedIn posts for WiNG where i have been able to hear about other womens experiences within National Grid.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend National Grid to a friend?
Yes
Why?
There are loads of different routes which i feel would be really interesting to go to, i would recommend certain aspects but getting a degree is a major advantage of doing a training programme with National Grid.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to National Grid?
To practice presentation skills before the assessment center and thinking on the spot. I would also recommend looking through a variety of options to make sure you find the right one, and to speak with people who have completed apprenticeships and training courses.
