Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My job role currently varies day to day. Despite Covid-19 I am managing to have interactions with all members of my team. I have been given responsibility to look into the topics which interest me and generally understand how National Grid as a company operates
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I greatly enjoy the program layout (very well structured), the training provided (all the training is very relevant to your job) and all the staff I have interacted with so far at National Grid.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
During my time at National Grid so far I have developed numerous different skills. This varies from Excel/ Word skills to report writing all the way to technical analysis skills. Along side all these skills I am currently studying a foundation degree in electrical power engineering

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
Despite Covid-19 making planning courses difficult due to ever changing UK policies, programme has still managed to be thoroughly organised. Any changes in dates happen with plenty of time to make alternative plans and the changes are communicated very well.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I have a vast support network from other apprentices, to previous apprentices to mentors, to academic mentors to line managers and all the way up to Employee Assistant Programmes. I have never felt like I did not have the support network required.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I receive a very good amount of support from my training provider and we are all made aware that any additional support we need will be provided.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
The qualification we receive from our training provider is highly beneficial and applicable to our job role. The scheme has been adjusted to suit the needs of employers and is often updated to the latest industry standards.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
National Grid are very big on STEM engagement. This push to engage with the younger generation of engineers helps us to have ample opportunities to assist in these events.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend National Grid to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The company will always support you and in my eyes it is one of the few jobs for life left.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to National Grid?
Be yourself, do not try and sell them a persona as this will just hinder your application. Always be curious and keen to learn and commit to any opportunities they present you with.
