Overview of Experience
Please give an overview of the virtual experience and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
We were given a group project at the start to work on with other interns. This was a problem question on how an area of the business could be improved/changed. We then spent the next 6 weeks researching, proposing findings and evaluating these findings by commercial modelling in excel. We then presented all of our gathered information in a report that was given to our question stakeholders. Finally, we presented via PowerPoint to our stakeholders and answered any questions they had.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
Overall, I found the experience to be quite informative about the difference roles and areas within the business. I found the discussions that we had with individuals within the business on teams to be particularly useful. They went into great detail on what there day to day activities included which has aided me in understanding the career path that I want to pursue. Also, carrying out the activities associated with my role has also given me an idea of what work in this area might involve.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I have developed my ability to work as a team and allocate tasks efficiently. I have also developed my presentation skills, both in designing presentations and delivering them to large audiences. I am also now comfortable using and communicating via Microsoft Teams as this was our main method of communication. I have also improved my excel skills as this was the piece of software that I used to carry out the commercial modelling for my product.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
I have found the company culture to be very welcoming and inclusive. Throughout the process it has always been made clear wo we should reach out to if we have any concerns. The workshops we attended on the various networks within the company (e.g. BAME network, disability network) has also given me an insight into what the company does to make sure that individual's from all of the different groups feel included when working at Centrica.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy the virtual experience?
Overall, I have thoroughly enjoyed my virtual experience at Centrica. They organisers have gone through a lot of effort to ensure that any shortcomings from work from home are addressed (e.g. to avoid feeling isolated there have been various Friday socials and quizzes). I have found the work to be at times challenging but ultimately rewarding and I feel as if I have developed my ability to work in a professional capacity which will stand me in good stead for the future.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Centrica
One tip that I would have is to not be afraid of reaching out to others or asking any questions. People already working from within the business have made clear that they are always available to have a chat and answer any questions about the work. Additionally, I feel as if it would be beneficial to do some research into the industry before starting as this will allow you to not be confused by any terms presented to you in the work.
