Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My role involves assisting my team on all aspects of the planning process, this includes writing reports, site visits, research and meetings with clients. I work on a variety of different projects from small scale residential conversions to large scale renewable energy projects, every project is different which is great.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoy being able to study and work at the same time as I think it is useful to be able to experience both together as I can use what I've learnt at work in my studies and vice versa. My team have also been very supportive and welcoming.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt a lot about planning from the policy background to the submission of an application, since starting my job which has been great to be able to learn on the job whilst also attending university. Also, I have learnt a lot of new skills since starting my job and further developed existing skills.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
Given the pandemic it has obviously been different starting this year however, the company has still organised graduate training days when I started which were a good introduction. I receive support from the team when it is needed and they are all aware that I am also studying at the same time.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
My immediate team are really good at supporting me when I need help, they are also all aware that I am studying at the same time. Everyone so far has been really friendly within Savills and it has been a very inclusive environment, hopefully I will be able to meet up with more people once the restrictions are lifted.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
The university provided a few weeks of induction which was a really good way to settle into the course and meet some other students albeit virtually. All the lecturers have been really welcoming and friendly and are always happy to answer any questions. Overall, I have really enjoyed it so far.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I think so far what I have learnt during university has helped somewhat in my day job as the content has been fairly practical and up to date. Also, I feel my job has helped my understanding of what I have been learning and it has been useful to apply it to the job.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Given the pandemic I think it has been difficult to meet lots of different people as lots of social activities have been cancelled as a result. However, I am involved in the Graduate Committee within work which organised a christmas quiz and we have got other events planned for the year too.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Savills to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I think they are a great employer who have enabled me to work and study at the same time. The work environment has been really inclusive and everyone has been really friendly and welcoming. Overall, I am really glad I have been able to join Savills and look forward to progressing with them.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Savills?
I would say to be yourself during the application process but also get your passion across for the company and industry. Also, make sure you are prepared for the interviews and assessment days whether that is research into the company or the industry. Overall, I think it is a great opportunity to be able to work for such a great company.
